Israel’s Men’s National Lacrosse team will make their first appearance in international competition next summer. The team will take part in exhibition games during the 2012 European Lacrosse Championships in Amsterdam. The host Dutch will take on Israel on June 18, 2011.

The Lax Hostel (thelaxhostel.com) caught up with Ireland international midfielders John “JROCK” O’Connor and Martin “Bonagee” Scanlon at the recent tryouts for the men’s and women’s squads to represent Ireland in the 2012 European Lacrosse Championships. The tryouts were held at University College Dublin (UCD) in Dublin, Ireland.
JROCK and Bonagee have have represented Ireland internationally in the 2009 Celtic Cup in Edingburgh, Scotland, and the 2010 World Field Lacrosse Championships in Manchester, England. John also represented Ireland in the 2008 European Championships in Lahti, Finland. In addition to their international play, they both have have represented the UCD club team, the Irish Lacrosse League (ILL all-stars), and the F-U-N Dublin Bay Prawns. John currently plays in the Netherlands for the Groningen Gladiators. He feeds baby seals in his free time. We don’t know what Bonagee does with his free time.

The Dutch men’s team has announced a 30-man roster that will train together in the Netherlands for the upcoming European Championships in Amsterdam.

After three tough weekends selection coach O’Neill has his first selection for the upcoming EK2012 announced in Amsterdam. The selection will begin next month in his preparation.

The Dutch Lacrosse Association has announced two remaining try-out opportunities for selection to the National Women’s Team that will represent the Netherlands in the 2012 European Championships. Both sessions will be led by Dutch head coach, Sandy Bridgeman.

The final woman’s try-out to be held in the Netherlands will take place the 17th and 18th of September. The overseas try-out will take place on September 25th and 26th in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl. Players must be able to attain a Dutch passport in order to join the team and attendance at some team training sessions will be required in preparation for the EC 2012 .
